Roads act as the nervous system of a forest. They allow for access for logging, timber cruising, wildlife management, disease inspection, hunting/recreation, and much more. A lot of thought needs to go into the design and layout of roads on a property. Water management, stream and ditch crossings, what type of aggregate for road surface, where to place culverts and what's the correct size, water turnouts, how wide curves need to be to allow large equipment access for logging, how much crown is sufficient to get the water from the road to the surface; is just a few of the questions that leads to a successful job. All roads regardless of how well the design and construction will require maintenance over time. Culverts replaced, roads graded, back-slope vegetation removed to allow sunlight to access the road, additional graveled hauled, clean clogged culverts and silt pits, are some things we look for in order to keep a road in top condition.
